What causes acne scars?
After an acne breakout, the body’s natural healing processes are triggered to replace the damaged skin that has been destroyed. Acne scars occur when the body produces too much or too little tissue. When too little tissue is created, atrophic or depressed scars form, and when too much tissue is created, hypertrophic or raised scars form. Acne rooted deeper in the skin is more likely to cause scarring, as deep acne often disrupts more skin tissue and takes longer to heal. Sometimes, dark spots or hyperpigmentation can form after a breakout. This occurs when the new, healed skin changes color, tone, or texture. Damaged blood vessels can also contribute to the development of these marks. Popping pimples or picking at scabs also increase the likelihood of scarring.
Our team is highly trained in recognizing the causes and types of acne scars. We are experienced in successfully treating a wide variety of acne scars using effective combinations of treatments.
How can acne scars be treated?
There are a variety of ways to treat acne scars, from treatments such as lasers and RF to peels to injectables. In nearly every case, a combination of treatments will produce far better results than just one treatment alone.
It is critical to take a methodical and scientific approach to treating acne scars, rather than experimenting with treatments that are trending or popular. Some treatments or products that work well for one individual may not work at all for another individual, depending on the type(s) of scars present. Because of this, our treatment and product choices are personalized based on our assessment of your skin, and we will create a thorough treatment plan at your first visit based on our 90+ years of aesthetic experience.

Laser Resurfacing
A proven treatment with powerful results, laser resurfacing reveals brand new, healthy skin. Laser energy is directed into the skin using one of our advanced laser technologies, carefully selected by our team based on your skin, lifestyle, and goals. The laser targets skin cells, triggering the formation of a fresh, smoother layer of skin.
Spectra MDF Laser
Spectra MDF is a unique technology that uses laser energy to smooth and level the surface of the skin. This innovative, multi-depth fractional laser allows our skilled practitioners to customize the treatment for optimal results on a variety of types of acne scars with less downtime and discomfort than ablative lasers.
RF Microneedling
A powerful and versatile treatment, RF Microneedling is an effective treatment for improving skin texture, quality, and elasticity. Safe radio-frequency energy is delivered below the surface of the skin using gold-plated needles, stimulating the production of collagen, refining skin texture, and minimizing the appearance of certain types of acne scars.
SkinPen Microneedling
A long-time favorite skincare treatment, Microneedling uses a pen-like device to create microchannels in the skin using a set of fine needles. These channels must be repaired by the body, so the treatment forces the production of new collagen within the epidermis and dermis. With each treatment, the skin heals smoother than before.
Chemical Peels
The latest generation of chemical peels target acne scars gently yet effectively. The peels correct pigmentation problems, brighten the skin, and reduce textural irregularities that are common with acne scar cases. Good for most skin types, the peels work well on all skin colors, including darker complexions, which traditionally did not fare well with chemical peels.
Dermal Filler
A quick treatment that yields immediate results, dermal fillers are used to replace volume in atrophic or depressed (indented) scars. Filler is precisely injected into the indentations, plumping the skin and minimizing the appearance of certain types of atrophic scars. Results are long-lasting.
Medical-Grade Skincare
A proper skincare regimen is important to maintain and enhance the results of acne scar treatments. Our aesthetic experts will determine what medical-grade skincare is appropriate for your customized regimen.
